Red Stag SupperClub is located in eclectic, artsy Northeast Minneapolis, not far from the cobblestones of original Main Street along the riverfront. This area is often called 'Nordeast' because of its Eastern European heritage evident in both its architecture and old family business names. It has a feel that is both more edgy and more small town than downtown Minneapolis just across the river.
The Red Stag SupperClub at 509 1st Avenue NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413 doesn't have an ethnic focus like many restaurants in nearby areas including the Northeast Arts District… but it does focus on serving fresh, local, organic food and environmental sustainability. When it opened in 2007 it was the first LEED-CI registered restaurant project in Minnesota. Through their environmental green building design they were able to cut water use by about 70% and energy use almost in half!
But what keeps people coming back is their warm ambiance and delicious and varied menu that appeals to 'foodies' and traditionalists alike. We stopped for Saturday brunch a couple weeks ago and I had a creative egg and lobster salad sandwich… yummy! The potato chips were obviously freshly made… and flipping your drink coaster will bring you a glass of sparking or still filtered water. We had a great meal, then wandered into some of the artsy shops next door and down the street.
This area is at the historical center of Minneapolis, the northeast side of the flour mill district and now part of the Nicollet Island/East Bank neighborhood. One of the city's smallest neighborhoods, it is dominated by condos and townhouses, with both new buildings and condo conversions towering to take advantage of spectacular downtown city views across the river. Nicollet Island is a charming 26-acre park with an inn, private high school and a few historic residences, not often available for sale.
There are currently 21 homes for sale in Nordeast Minneapolis Nicollet Island-East Bank neighborhood, all condos and townhomes with an average price of $402,657.
