Sunday’s Site – Sweet Corn and More, St. Louis Park

NOTE: see the bottom of Sunday's Site posts for homes for sale in the area

When I was buying fresh produce for my Wednesday meal this week I stopped at Sweet Corn and More in St. Louis Park, a gazebo stand where I had never stopped before. I was impressed with not only the quality of the produce but also with the helpful, knowledgeable staff.

I purchased watermelon, muskmelon, strawberries, sweet corn and peaches. At dinner Wednseday night everyone kept talking about how delicious the fruit was…and the most important test was that everything disappeared!

As I got to thinking about this week's site I found myself drawn back to Sweet Corn and More, at the corner of Highway 7 and Texas Avenue. We are 'up north' this weekend, so I stopped to get more delicious melons to take with us. When I stopped this time the owner, Jay Gans, was there and we had a nice chat. I learned he has been doing this for 16 years and he buys all his produce direct from the farms that produce them. He hand selects his suppliers to get only the best and it shows…I will definitely keep coming back!

Here is a tip from Jay for selecting a good muskmelon…use your HANDHeavy, indicating melon is full and ripe…good Aroma…Netting throughout the surface…and a clean Dimple indicating it was ripe enough to easily let go of the stem when it was picked.
